In early 2019 Fay Martin, the founder of Places for People Haliburton Highlands, was trying to think of ways to increase awareness surrounding the housing crisis in Haliburton County. The first annual Sleeping in Cars fundraiser was born and in mid-March of that year, at three separate locations around Haliburton County, people gathered to experience what it is like to sleep in a vehicle.

Huge success

The participants of that first Sleeping in Cars event raised over $6,000 and the excellent media coverage of the event was priceless and succeeded in increasing awareness of Places for People and its cause.

Skipping 2020 and planning for 2021

Due to COVID-19 safety concerns, the 2020 event had to be cancelled. The 2021 event is in the planning stages and will once again be held across Haliburton County to raise awareness surrounding the homelessness problem which has only gotten worse due to the pandemic.

We will be publishing more details about the event later in the year.
